This savory beef liver and onion recipe is a delicious way to enjoy this nutrient-rich organ meat. With a few simple ingredients and easy steps, you can create a flavorful dish that’s perfect for a hearty meal.

  • 1 lb beef liver, sliced
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

  1. Rinse the beef liver slices under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes. Remove the onions from the skillet and set them aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Increase the heat to high and add the beef liver slices to the skillet. Sear them for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they are browned but still slightly pink in the center.
  5. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Add the Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, and beef broth to the skillet. Stir to combine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  6. Return the caramelized onions to the skillet, stirring them into the sauce. Let the liver and onions simmer for an additional 5-7 minutes until the liver is cooked through and the sauce has thickened slightly.
  7. Taste and adjust the seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
  8. Serve the savory beef liver and onion hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired. Enjoy!
