  • 1 pound frozen meatballs (thawed)
  • 1 loaf Italian bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or olive oil.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add thawed meatballs to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Place half of the cubed Italian bread in an even layer at the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  5. Spread half of the marinara sauce over the bread cubes.
  6. Arrange half of the cooked meatballs evenly over the marinara sauce.
  7. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the meatballs.
  8. Repeat the layers: bread cubes, marinara sauce, meatballs, and cheese.
  9. Sprinkle dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper over the top of the casserole.
  10. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  11. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the casserole is heated through.
  12. Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
  13. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
  14. Serve hot and enjoy the flavors of a meatball sub in casserole form!
