Homemade Sloppy Joes Recipe

Enjoy the classic comfort food with this easy homemade sloppy joes recipe. Made with simple ingredients, it’s perfect for a quick and delicious meal.

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Hamburger buns, for serving

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
  2. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet with the beef. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are soft.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  7. Once the sloppy joe mixture is ready, toast the hamburger buns if desired.
  8. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom half of each bun, then top with the other half.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy your homemade sloppy joes!
