German Potato Pancakes Recipe

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying


  1. Grate the potatoes and onion using a box grater or a food processor. Place the grated potatoes and onion in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out as much liquid as possible.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the grated potatoes and onion with eggs, flour, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add enough vegetable oil to coat the bottom of the pan.
  4. Once the oil is hot, scoop about 1/4 cup of the potato mixture into the skillet for each pancake, flattening them slightly with a spatula.
  5. Fry the pancakes for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove the pancakes from the skillet and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
