Easy Non-Sourdough Bread Recipe

This simple recipe yields delicious non-sourdough bread that’s perfect for sandwiches or to accompany a hearty soup. It’s straightforward to make and requires minimal ingredients.

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Optional: 1 egg for egg wash, sesame seeds, or oats for topping

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Once the yeast is activated, add the olive oil and salt to the bowl and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition, until a dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the risen dough to release any air bubbles, then shape it into a loaf and place it into a greased loaf pan.
  7. If desired, you can brush the top of the loaf with beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds or oats for a decorative touch.
  8. Cover the loaf pan loosely with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
  9. Once the dough has risen again, bake it in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  10. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Slice and enjoy your freshly baked non-sourdough bread!

This recipe makes one loaf of bread, but feel free to double the ingredients if you want to make two loaves.
